Black Pearl Sings
If anyone can sing, Tonya Pinkins can. For the next several days you still have an opportunity to see this Tony Award winner do what she does best on stage at the Ford’s Theatre in the title role of Black Pearl Sings. When she encounters Pearl is the story of a song collector from the Library of Congress who goes to a Texas prison to meet Pearl. There she discovers dozens of musical treasures rooted in the African tradition. In the process, Pearl must decide whether to give away her ancestors’ songs for a chance at her own freedom. Music unites strangers in a powerful story that illuminates America’s racial divisions and the attempts of two women to bridge them.
Tickets for individuals 35 and under are just $10 through the remainder of the shows run Sunday, October 18. For more information visit here.
