All That Jazz
There is a school in DC named after him. There is a bridge in DC named after him. And to the delight of all of our listening pleasure, since 2005 there has been a jazz festival produced and named in his honor too.
He is one of, if not DC’s favorite son — the legendary Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians in history. June 4 through June 15 the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival will celebrate its 5th anniversary with array of concerts featuring local and international artists, an education series, a family fun day and continue its “Jazz in the Hoods” series. The Washington Post has called the annual celebration a “fitting tribute to Washington’s most famous jazzman.”
