You Are Invited: State of Ward 5 Address
Last summer the Trinidad neighborhood of Northeast Washington experienced a huge increase in violent crime. The area became a focus of media attention just as much for the shootings as it later was for the controversial approach lawmakers and the police department were using to stabilize and control the situation. It was then that Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas Jr. spoke to the heart of the issues that manifest themselves in crime. Thomas wonderfully articulated how unemployment, poor education, lack of social services and frustration led to the summer 2008 crime spree in Ward 5.
Tonight at 6:00pm at McKinley Technical High School, 151 T Street, NE Councilman Thomas will deliver his State of Ward 5 Address and speak to what he sees as the current state of the Ward and what he sees ahead for residents. Surely, with summer approaching crime and public safety will have to be discussed. Join Councilman Thomas and meet your neighbors tonight.
