Dinner is Served
Tonight the eyes of the world will again turn their attention to Washington, DC for the most highly anticipated social event and celebration in the District since the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The President and First Lady Michelle Obama will host their first official state dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur at state dinner to be held in a white tent that has been erected on the South Lawn of the White House at 7:00pm. An invitation to any state dinner is highly coveted and for this one only 320 people made the final guest list. As this is the first state dinner hosted by the Obama administration it will be scrutinized for both its substance and style. The First Lady and her staff have been planning this fete for several months. Politicos, philanthropists, business leaders and a cadre celebrity guests will feast on food prepared by Marcus Samuelsson of Aquavit, a Scandinavian restaurant in New York City and be entertained by Oscar winner and internationally known recording artist Jennifer Hudson. In spite of other glorious events the President and First Lady have hosted at the White House since they took office this one will be used henceforth as a benchmark for their social savvy in how they represent the United States as a couple.
